Mom’s Weekend with Dad (After)

The weekend I shared with my dad was all I expected it to be…and more. We arrived in Sandpoint on Friday evening. We checked into our hotel and went out to get some dinner. We ate dinner at Slates Prime Time restaurant. It is right across the street from the Motel 6. They have great food and tons of choices of beer. After dinner we went back to the hotel to pass out early…we had wanted to catch first lift in the morning.

We rode Saturday and Sunday. Both days were blue bird and amazing. We spent most of Saturday on the backside and found a lot of untouched powder in the trees. After a full day of shredding we enjoyed a live band that started playing on the patio outside the lodge around four. Everyone was stoked from a good day on the mountain and was ready to party. The music and dancing went on well into the night. People of all ages were boogying down with their ski boots, ski poles and tropical attire. We decided to call it a day around eight or so and headed back down to Sandpoint.

Sunday was the final day that Schweitzer was open to the public skiing and snowboarding. It was sunny and hot. The pond skimming in the village was in full swing. Around one in the afternoon people began gathering around the dummy course. The dummy course consisted of a long, steep, groomed run with a jump at the bottom. Contestants had submitted dummies of all shapes and sizes. There were around twenty dummies in all. Each one had a shot a cruising down the run, hitting the jump and seeing how far it could fly. Some dummies crashed and burned while other dummies soared. This was my favorite event of the weekend.

We rode for a few hours after the dummy race and then we had to get back to Spokane so my dad could catch his flight. Mom’s weekend last year was one of the best weekends I’ve had a Schweitzer and my dad had such a great time my parents are already making plans so they can both come this year.

Mom’s Weekend with Dad (Before)

Mom’s weekend is an event at Washington State University that comes around once a year. It is a very popular and anticipated event for many moms. This event is usually scheduled sometime in the end of March or early April. This past school year Mom’s weekend happened to be the same weekend as the closing weekend at Schweitzer. The weekend was April 3-5.When I found this out I immediately told my mom if she wanted to visit for Mom’s weekend we would not be spending the weekend in Pullman, but rather in Sandpoint Idaho. My mom, a ski fanatic, had no problem with this.

As it began getting closer to April my moms schedule at work got really busy and she was no longer going to be able to come. But, she assured me with no worries, that my dad would be taking her place for Mom’s weekend…I was stoked.

My dad flew into the Spokane Airport early Friday morning. I picked him up and we drove back to Pullman so I could attend my classes that day. As soon as class was over we hit the road and headed for Sandpoint. My dad, a ski fanatic as well, had never been to Schweitzer before. I was really excited to be able to spend a weekend shredding with him at my home resort.

It was also going to be a phenomenal weekend because Schweitzer was having Tropical Daze to celebrate the ending of another fantastic season. The events were scheduled to include pond skimming, live music, games, and a dummy race.
